Toronto, ON (FSCwire) - Tree of Knowledge International Corp. (CSE:TOKI; OTC:TRKWF) (the “Company” or “TOK”) (formerly Courtland Capital Inc.) wishes to clarify certain facts and any corresponding confusion caused by there being two prominent Physicians with the name Dr. Sanjay Gupta, only one of which is working with the Company to develop a new line of cannabis products. The partnership with Dr. Gupta is centered on a new technology invented by Dr. Gupta that aims at a superior and faster delivery of CBD and cannabinoids to the brain.

Dr. Gupta is a Harvard trained Pain Specialist and President of the American Pain Association. He currently treats patients with pain conditions and Opioid use disorders utilising CBD. He is also engaged in research involving CBD as an alternative to opioids. He recently completed a ten city North America tour educating the public and physicians about the Opioid crisis and the potential role of cannabis in fighting this epidemic.

Dr Sanjay Gupta stated:  “CBD has lot to offer in a variety of disease conditions and especially the Opioid epidemic. Unfortunately, a lot of stigma is attached to cannabis products and there is a significant need for educating public and physicians.” He feels that a large majority of patients are unable to afford CBD and hopefully insurance companies will start paying for it once more data and research is available. The recent approval by FDA of CBD products for treatment of drug resistant seizures in children exemplifies the potential medical benefits of cannabinoids.

It has come to the attention of TOK that an online publication had mistakenly used a photo of CNN correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta in a publication describing the business affairs of the Company.  The online publication was not specifically authorized by the Company, however, the publication did contact the Company requesting additional information. The Company directed the publisher to the Company’s website for a photo of Dr. Gupta and information regarding his profile. For whatever reason, the publisher did not do so and independently sourced the incorrect photo. The Company understands the article was since modified, no longer includes the photo of the wrong Sanjay Gupta and included clarifying statements. Despite not being authored or approved by the Company, the Company wishes to apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

TOK wishes to clarify that the Dr. Sanjay Gupta it has partnered with does not work for CNN nor is he affiliated with CNN. Dr Sanjay Gupta is a common name and there are several prominent Physicians with the same name. Michael Caridi, Chairman of the Company explained: “We were first contacted by another publisher shortly after the publication in question was released, however, we did not see the publication and were not aware that the wrong photo had been included. We were surprised at the time when we were confronted about the original publication and only subsequently learned of the online publisher’s error. While we are aware that the CNN Dr. Sanjay Gupta is well respected for his journalism and other endeavours, our Sanjay is a highly respected, practicing Physician actively involved in research and clinical care of pain patients and a passionate advocate for the medical use of cannabis for the management of pain and opioid use disorder. While the Company’s products are available online, the Company actively markets its products to Physicians who prescribe cannabis to patients and not to the general public. The Physicians to whom the Company markets its products are well aware of the qualifications and differences between the two Dr. Guptas. Our Dr. Gupta is a Board Certified Pain Specialist. He is co-founder and CEO of Dr. Circle.com a leading web portal and social networking website for Physicians with outreach to over 160,000 US Physicians. He has lectured worldwide to fellow Physicians on medical topics and is actively involved in the development of technology with the goal of improving the efficacy of cannabis in pain management. Any confusion that may be experienced by the general lay public, while certainly possible, does not impact the Company’s relationship with practicing Physicians.  We have been advised that the CNN Dr. Gupta does not permit commercial uses of his identity to promote the sale of companies’ products and therefore we expect that any confusion with our Dr. Gupta, if any, to be minimal. We are also aware of two products called ‘Gupta Kush’ and ‘Gupta Weed’ in the market, however those products are not related to TOK and are not utilising our Dr Gupta’s technology.”

Dr Sanjay Gupta is a recipient of prestigious “Michiganian of the Year Award” by The Detroit News and has received several other awards for his innovative research and clinical work in the field of pain medicine. He has been included in “TOP DOCS” listing for the last 12 years in a row by respected publications.

Last year, Dr Gupta started a nation-wide cannabis research initiative with various medical schools and universities in collaboration with American Pain Association to conduct basic and clinical research and collect further data to fully explore the potential of cannabis and gather more support for medical use of CBD.
