Jameson First Shot competition winners will write and direct a short film featuring Dominic West

TORONTO, April 11, 2017 /CNW/ - Jameson Irish whiskey is searching for three undiscovered filmmakers for its 6th annual Jameson First Shot competition, which provides winners with the opportunity of a lifetime: a first big break in the notoriously difficult film industry. Filmmakers can enter online for the chance to have their scripts made into short films, featuring award-winning British actor and director Dominic West.

At the heart of the Jameson brand is the motto Sine Metu, meaning 'without fear'. It's a motto that exists to encourage people to be open to new people and new experiences – to being themselves and taking the road less travelled. The Jameson First Shot film competition asks filmmakers to write about what matters to them, tell the stories that they want to tell and, ultimately, make the film they want to make. It's a platform that celebrates individuals that have incredible stories to tell but haven't had the opportunity to bring them to life.

This year's winners will direct Dominic West, known for his role as Jimmy McNulty in HBO's highly-acclaimed series, "The Wire". His role as McNulty allowed him to push boundaries and express his vision for the show's characters, showing fearless self-belief when he directed an episode in the final season. Winners will also have the support of an experienced film crew and the guidance of a world-class producer, Dana Brunetti. He has produced multiple award-winning movies for film and television, including "Captain Phillips," starring Tom Hanks, and "The Social Network".

Jameson Irish whiskey is distributed and represented in Canada by Corby Spirit and Wine Ltd. "Over the past years, we're received hundreds of submissions from aspiring filmmakers around the world," says Maria Sweeney, Senior Brand Manager of Imported Whiskies, Corby Spirit and Wine. "It shows the passion and dedication of artists and we hope to give the same opportunity to another Canadian winner this year."

Canadian filmmaker Stephan Tempier won the 2015 Jameson First Shot competition and travelled to Los Angeles to direct actor Adrien Brody in his short film, Boredom. Described as a "haunting and beautiful" eight-minute short, Boredom breaks down the man's troubled relationship with his friends and family.

How to enter:
The competition is open to entries on April 3rd, 2017 and will be closed on June 1st, 2017.

Eligible applicants must be 25 years or older living in the following countries: Canada, US, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Bulgaria, Australia and Israel.
Full rules, including length and theme, can be found at http://www.jamesonfirstshot.com/.
