HEXO supports the Gastrointestinal Society cannabis education program

GATINEAU, Quebec, Sept. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HEXO Corp. (“HEXO” or the “Company”) (TSX:HEXO) is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and continuously examines the way its operations impact the natural and social environment on a local, provincial, and national level. Today, HEXO is pleased to announce the contribution of $30,000, which supported the GI (Gastrointestinal) Society in the creation of an educational video outlining the benefits and risks of medical cannabis.

“We are proud to partner with a reputable organization such as the GI Society,” said Terry Lake, HEXO’s Vice-President of Corporate Social Responsibility. “The GI Society is the Canadian leader in providing trusted, evidence-based information on all areas of the gastrointestinal tract, supporting research, advocating for appropriate patient access to health care, and promoting gastrointestinal and liver health, just as HEXO is committed to relieving our clients of any ailments that have led them to medical cannabis.”

The seven-minute educational videos, in English and French, are available on its website at www.badgut.org/cannabis, along with helpful, medically-referenced literature geared for the public explaining how cannabis works and addressing cannabis-related stigma.

“We’re grateful for HEXO’s support toward this educational initiative, which will help inform a broad range of individuals who might turn to cannabis for medical treatment,” said Gail Attara, chief executive officer, Gastrointestinal Society. “The video outlines some significant benefits medical cannabis treatment has in relieving pain and reducing GI symptoms, particularly for inflammatory bowel disease patients.”

HEXO continues to focus on CSR initiatives that align with its goal of reducing the impact of the Company’s operations on the surrounding natural and social environments. The Company also recently joined the Global Cannabis Partnership which has similar goals of setting best practice standards and guidelines for the cannabis industry as it continues to grow.
