Extra Space Storage Brightens the Holidays for Houston Families Affected by Hurricane Harvey

PR Newswire

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Extra Space Storage Inc. (the "Company") (NYSE: EXR) brought "Extra Presents" for three Houston families who were directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey.  The Christoph family, a grandmother and her autistic grandson, the Davis family, a single mother with four daughters, and the Stephens family, a couple and their three-year old daughter, were all struggling to rebuild their homes and lives after Harvey.

The Company transformed a 10x20 storage unit into Santa's Workshop with loads of holiday decorations, gifts, treats, and Santa and Mrs. Claus themselves.  When the families arrived at the Extra Space Storage facility, there were screams of excitement, tears of joy, and smiles of gratitude. Families were given new furniture, home appliances, video games, books, clothes, and other toys.  See a video recap of the event at:  http://blog.extraspace.com/2017/12/21/extra-presents-for-houston-families/or https://youtu.be/26p3WbhaB6Y .

"During the storm, we really wanted to show our customers that we cared," said Rene Gabrys, Director of Customer Experience at Extra Space Storage.  "We know that many families in Houston will continue to be impacted for months to come and we want the community to know that we still care."

"I was here with our customers in the aftermath of the storm, and as a local, I lived through it myself.  It is great to see some of that worry and concern replaced by hope and optimism," said Anthony Young, Extra Space Storage's District Manager in Houston.

The Company conducted a campaign through social media channels where those who were affected by Harvey could nominate a family by telling their story through an email.  After reviewing many tragic stories of numerous deserving families, three Houston families were selected to receive $2,500 in Christmas gifts to help them get back on their feet and provide some holiday season fun, they may not have otherwise enjoyed.
