EDMONTON, Jan. 31, 2019 /CNW/ - Robert Phillips, Chairman of the Board for Canadian Western Bank (TSX: CWB) is pleased to announce the appointment of E. Gay Mitchell to the CWB's Board of Directors effective January 31, 2019.

Ms. Mitchell will stand for election at CWB's next annual meeting of shareholders.  With the addition of Ms. Mitchell, CWB's Board of Directors will consist of 13 directors, 12 of whom are independent.

Ms. Mitchell is an industry leader in Canada, with decades of experience in financial services. Previously, she was the Deputy Chair of RBC Wealth Management and an Executive Vice President at Royal Bank of Canada. In the past she served on the subsidiary boards of Royal Trust Company of Canada, Royal Trust Corporation, and Royal Bank Mortgage Corporation, as well as numerous non-profit boards. Ms. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta, an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers.
