AFC Energy PLC (AIM:AFC, OTC:AFGYF) CEO Adam Bond joins Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with details of its latest advancements in ammonia cracker reactor technology.
After launching its first modular scalable ammonia cracker at COP28 last year, Bond said AFC Energy had achieved world-class efficiency levels in ammonia cracking technology well ahead of schedule. This development is pivotal for the sustainable production and transportation of hydrogen.
AFC Energy's approach proposes manufacturing hydrogen in regions with low energy costs, like the Middle East, and transporting it as ammonia to areas where energy is more expensive, such as the UK and Europe.
The latest advancement in the technology facilitates a 33% reduction in electrical power consumption compared to the 2023 design, with expectations to reduce energy usage to below 10 kilowatt-hours per kilogram, positioning AFC Energy as a leader in the market.
The company is on track to further reduce energy consumption within the next 12 months. Discussions and visits from major global producers of green and blue ammonia indicate strong commercial interest, with revenue expected from 2025.
AFC Energy is scaling up its next-generation technology and aims to finalize the commercial module size, resembling a large washing machine, within this calendar year.
