Ilana D. Weinstein, is the hedge fund whisperer. Founder and CEO of the IDW Group LLC, she and her team are one of the leading providers of top investment talent to finance companies around the globe. In this insightful interview, she reveals what to look for when trying to spot a winning hedge fund, the red flags that should scare you away and what it takes to work in one. "The only way to stay ahead of the game is to be building something in-house where the people on it are better for sitting on your platform, and very few funds have been able to do that effectively.” In a year where hedge funds are on track for a $60 Billion net inflow and larger long positions than ever before — Weinstein breaks down the most essential qualities of firms to invest in and their leaders. Axie Is Set for Infinity and Beyond
Is Axie Infinity a video game, an ecosystem, or a burgeoning nation-state? Still early in its development, Axie is already the highest-grossing NFT game, approaching $3 billion in all-time sales and continuing to set new monthly records. Jeffrey Zirlin first met his fellow co-founders of Sky Mavis, Axie Infinity’s parent company, through the CryptoKitties community. Now, lines that used to separate gaming, social media, and commerce are blurring. And Zirlin and his team are key players in that process. Hear from Zirlin where the journey started and where it’s headed from here. Interviewed by Ash Bennington on January 12, 2022.

We're All Quants Now: Why Being Nimble Is the Key to Maximizing Total Return
Quantitative analysis may be just the alternative to the classic 60/40 strategy we need right now. The twin realities of rising inflation and higher interest rates pose new challenges to investors accustomed to setting their portfolios on autopilot. Jamil Baz, managing director and head of client solutions and analytics at PIMCO, explains how exploiting volatility with factor-based trades can help investors realize returns in line with what was expected as real rates declined for nearly four decades. Baz explains to Rob Arnott of Research Affiliates how quants can do more than merely generate alpha. Recorded on January 18, 2022.

Geo-Macro Tensions, Central Bank Questions Exacerbate Selling Pressures
The U.S. appears to be ramping up its support of NATO forces to counter Russia’s threat to Ukraine. And, after selling off along with all risk assets yesterday, crude oil prices are once again rising. Other commodities produced in the Baltics, such as natural gas as well as wheat and corn, are also sensitive to geopolitical tension. This comes as the Federal Reserve opens a two-day meeting during which the central bank is expected to raise its benchmark interest rate for the first time since late 2018. Bitcoin, meanwhile, is up more than 3% during the last 24 hours, as the world’s No. 1 cryptocurrency seems to have decoupled from equities, at least in the very short term. Tony Greer, founder of TG Macro and editor of The Morning Navigator, joins Real Vision’s Alfonso Peccatiello to sort through a murky macro environment and to talk about his current trading book.
