Ash Bennington sits down with Caitlin Long, CEO & founder of Avanti, and Jeff Horowitz, CCO of BITGO, to speculate on coming regulations and the implications these may have for the crypto space. Long discusses the benefits of preemptive regulation in the context of the work she has done and continues to do in Wyoming. Horowitz lays out the importance of regulation that preserves crypto's core purpose, especially in emerging markets. Additionally, they explore stable coins and the Federal Reserve, conflicting regulatory jurisdictions, and which countries are "ahead of the curve" in their crypto regulatory framework. Filmed live on March 24, 2021 at Crypto Gathering 2021. For more information on the Festival of Learning and to purchase your tickets, please visit: https://www.realvision.com/festival-of-learning-2021 Key Learnings: Horowitz and Long both agree on the importance of a lightweight approach to regulation that preserves crypto's core functions. Horowitz emphasizes creating access to emerging markets, harkening back to an early crypto commandment of bringing access to capital to the "unbanked". He fears greater regulation will isolate those living in failing states, and Long is concerned with maintaining the instantaneous clearing of transactions that smart contracts provide. She is actively working in Wyoming in hopes to influence early legislation and ensure a crypto-friendly outcome.

Erik Voorhees: The Case for the Decentralization of Business and Money
The separation of church and state was a revolutionary idea—Erik Voorhees, CEO of ShapeShift, and Eric Kryski, CEO and co-founder of Bidali, discuss whether it’s now time to separate money from state as well. Voorhees and Kryski discuss the origins of and new developments taking place at ShapeShift. Criticizing the infrastructure we have around our traditional human resources departments and arguing that they impoverish many of the people they advocate for, Voorhees makes the case for decentralization in many facets of life and the economy. He then applies this principle to money itself—in order to achieve a truly just society, a small, centralized group ought not possess a monopoly on currency. Filmed on July 15, 2021.
