Nominations across three divisions: Great Pacific Media,
Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Productions

VANCOUVER, Feb. 15, 2019 /CNW/ - Thunderbird Entertainment Group Inc. (TSXV:TBRD) ("Thunderbird" or the "Company"), a global multiplatform entertainment company with offices in Los Angeles, London, Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto, wishes to congratulate the production teams at three of its divisions – Great Pacific Media, Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Productions – for receiving multiple nominations in the upcoming Canadian Screen Awards.

Thunderbird Entertainment Group (CNW Group/Thunderbird Entertainment Group Inc.)

Thunderbird's factual division, Great Pacific Media, has three nominations for Best Writing in a Factual Series: Nicole Tomlinson and Neil Thomas have been nominated for their work on Highway Thru Hell; Catharine Park and Todd Serotiuk for their work on Heavy Rescue: 401; and Neil Grahn and Laurie-Ann Smith for Queen of the Oil Patch. Highway Thru Hell and Heavy Rescue: 401 are produced for Discovery Canada, a Bell Media Company. Queen of the Oil Patch is produced for APTN.

"I want to congratulate the writing teams at Highway Thru Hell, Heavy Rescue: 401 and Queen of the Oil Patch, for their remarkable achievement in being nominated for Best Writing on a Factual Series," remarks Mark Miller, president of Thunderbird Entertainment. "Writing is the very heart of what we do. To have three of our top shows nominated for writing speaks to how important story telling is for us."

Super Dinosaur has been nominated in two categories: William Lau for Best Direction in an Animated Series, and Miguel Nunes for Best Sound in an Animated Series. This is Lau's first nomination for the Canadian Screen Awards, and Nunes second. Super Dinosaur was produced by Spin Master Entertainment and Wind Sun Sky/Skybound North, and is based on a comic book series of the same name by "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman. Thunderbird's kids division, Atomic Cartoons, animated the series. Super Dinosaur, was picked up by Corus, and currently airs on Teletoon.

"Congratulations to William on your nomination for Best Direction in an Animated Series, and to Miguel for Best Sound in an Animated Series – both well-deserved acknowledgements of what you bring to Super Dinosaur," continues Jennifer Twiner McCarron, chief executive officer at both Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Entertainment Group. "On behalf of everyone at Thunderbird Entertainment Group, I want to congratulate the teams at all our divisions for these remarkable recognitions, and for their hard work and amazing talents."

Thunderbird's hit series Kim's Convenience, which won best comedy series at last year's awards, was not eligible to be nominated this year as its broadcast slot moved from fall to winter. Cast member Andrew Phung, however, is nominated for the Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award, for his portrayal of Kimchee on the popular series. This award gives audiences everywhere the opportunity to vote for their favourite Canadian working in film, television, or digital media. Phung has previously won two Canadian Screen Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Featured Supporting Role or Guest Role in a Comedic Series, at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards in 2017 and the 6th Canadian Screen Awards in 2018.

Organized by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, the Canadian Screen Awards celebrate achievements in homegrown screen content, including film, television, and digital media. The Canadian Academy also produces Canadian Screen Week. This annual celebration of excellence in media features a multi-platform, national program of events and celebrations, and culminates with the Canadian Screen Awards: Broadcast Gala live on CBC, Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. AT/ 9:30 p.m. NT).
