The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer takes part in the first edition of EFFERVESCENCE

Canada NewsWire

MONTREAL, April 18, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the Université de Montréal is proud to contribute to the first edition of EFFERVESCENCE, a major event in the Life Sciences and Health Technologies sector, driven by Montréal InVivo and organized by a group of 14 partners, to be held on April 24 and 25 at TOHU.

An innovative event

EFFERVESCENCE is a unique opportunity for researchers, companies and stakeholders in the Life Sciences sector to network, build business relationships, participate in inspiring conferences and discover new developments in the industry. Close to 50 renowned speakers are expected at the event. Among others, ecologist and author Steven Guilbeault will take part as the opening keynote speaker to address the challenges that the Life Sciences and Health Technologies sector will face in connection with climate change. Political figures have also confirmed their attendance: Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation, and Ms. Danielle McCann, Minister of Health and Social Services will be on hand to take the floor.

A session devoted to oncology

IRIC, in concert with IRICoR and the Oncopole, come together to propose a friendly debate surrounding the advances and issues related to cancer research, to be led by Esther Bégin, journalist and host. This discussion, addressing current issues, will feature players from the fields of research, journalism and the public sphere, notably Anne Marinier and Sébastien Lemieux (Principal Investigators at IRIC), Michel Rochon and Yanick Villedieu (science communicators and both former Radio-Canada journalists), René Villemure (ethicist) and Jida El Hajjar (Vice-President, Investment and Health Promotion, Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation). This session will take place on April 25 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

"We are delighted that IRIC is taking part in this must-see event and that it is contributing to the future of Life Sciences. Such an initiative is clear proof that the Quebec sector of Life Sciences and Health Technologies is thriving and generating tremendous public interest. We are proud to contribute to this first edition of EFFERVESCENCE, which promises to be a great success", said Michel Bouvier, Chief Executive Officer of IRIC.
