Sleep Country Announces Safe and Socially Responsible Plan to Reopen Retail Stores Across Canada

Canada NewsWire

Company slated to reopen 165 stores during next two weeks beginning today with enhanced health and safety protocols for customers and employees

Reopening of remaining stores to be announced at later date

TORONTO, May 11, 2020 /CNW/ - Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc. ("Sleep Country" or "Sleep Country Canada" or the "Company") (TSX: ZZZ) today announced phase one of a plan to slowly reopen its retail stores in a safe and socially responsible way. The company is opening 165 of its Sleep Country and Dormez-vous retail locations across Canada in the next two weeks, with many stores in Quebec, Saskatchewan and Manitoba opening on May 11. The company's remaining stores will open at a later date, in line with provincial guidelines.

Sleep Country is introducing significantly enhanced health and safety protocols as it reopens its retail stores dedicated to helping Canadians find a better sleep. To ensure the well-being and comfort of their customers, Sleep Country will provide disposable mattress and pillow protectors to every customer who tests products recommended by its Sleep Experts. As a specialty mattress retailer, Sleep Country stores by nature remain a very low traffic destination enabling the company to enforce physical distancing measures and provide a comfortable shopping experience.

As Canada's leading omnichannel sleep retailer, Sleep Country is dedicated to meeting the sleep needs of its customers and enable them to shop when, where and how they choose.  In addition to in-store shopping, the company has launched its new online Sleep Expert Chat program, which allows customers to connect virtually with one of its Sleep Experts online or by phone to provide one-on-one consultation and advice to help customers find the products that best meet their needs. Sleep Country is also reinstating its best in class White Glove Delivery service with enhanced hygiene and safety protocols, and customers will have the choice to select this service or opt for contactless delivery right to their door.

"We are looking forward to welcoming Canadians back into our retail stores and delivering on our promise to help match customers to their best sleep. Now more than ever, we know that getting a good night's sleep is important for both our physical and mental well-being," said Dave Friesema, Chief Executive Officer, Sleep Country Canada. "As an omnichannel retailer, we are committed to offering an exceptional customer experience for buying sleep products whether that is online or in-store. Our national footprint of stores in communities both large and small helps keep Sleep Country connected to the sleep needs of all Canadians and we are pleased to offer a safe and healthy environment for Canadians to shop."

Health and Safety Protocols

The company is implementing a number of new operational processes to complement the traditional Sleep Country customer experience, including:

  • Floor Decals – To provide physical distancing guidance within the stores
  • Store Signage – To reinforce physical distancing measures and practices posted in windows and throughout the store
  • Cleaning Stations – To provide hand sanitizer for customers and employees throughout the store
  • Disposable Pillow Protectors – Mandatory to provide a protective barrier between customers and product testing and trials
  • Disposable Mattress Protectors – Mandatory to provide a protective barrier between customers and product testing and trials
  • Frequent Disinfection – To provide hard surface cleaning and disinfectant. Staff will spray and wipe down all hard surfaces including countertops, PIN pads, work areas, common display and customer trial areas after each customer interaction.
