Salsa Concert Will Conclude Celia Cruz Exhibition at The Woodlawn Cemetery

Exhibit & Concert to Honor "Queen of Salsa" Celia Cruz.

BRONX, N.Y., Sept. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In honor of the 15th anniversary of her passing, Woodlawn Cemetery will host a FREE concert on the lawn featuring the music of the "Queen of Salsa," Celia Cruz. The concert, will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 beginning at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., and will feature the Aurora & Zon del Barrio Orchestra featuring Fania All-Star Nicky Marrero playing the sounds of Celia Cruz. The concert will conclude the "Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa, Exhibition" being held at Woodlawn September 27th through 30th.

While the exhibit and concert are free and open to the general public, pre-registration is required at http://www.WoodlawnEvents.org

The traveling exhibit will feature costumes, wigs, stage hats, shoes and personal photographs which document the life of the "Queen of Salsa." A video documentary, provided by the Estate, will be shown during the exhibit, which will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Woodlawn's Woolworth Chapel. Exhibit Curator, Omer Pardillo Cid, President of the Celia Cruz Foundation, has stated that an exhibit of this magnitude has never before been hosted in the New York City area.

Throughout the exhibition and concert, The Woodlawn Conservancy Trolley will shuttle attendees to and from the exhibit and the Cruz Mausoleum, which will be open for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cuban-born Celia Cruz was internationally recognized as the "Queen of Salsa" and, during her lifetime, received numerous awards including three GRAMMY Awards, four Latin GRAMMYs and The Lifetime Achievement Award of the Smithsonian Institution. In 1987, Hollywood bestowed on her a star in the Walk of Fame. In 1994, U.S. President Bill Clinton awarded her the highest honor the country bestows upon an artist: The National Endowment for the Arts. The Smithsonian Museum hosted an exhibit called Azúcar: The Life and Music of Celia Cruz from 2005-2015, and in 2011, the United States Postal Service honored her invaluable contributions to the entertainment industry and international impact by placing her image on a US postage stamp as part of the Latin Music Legends Series.
