NEWARK, Del. --

Sallie Mae® unveiled a new, one-stop college-planning destination, created with, and for, high school educators and counselors. The Sallie Mae Paying for College Resource provides access to free, online college planning tools, short educational videos on financial aid, a free scholarship search engine with access to billions of dollars in scholarships, a college planning calculator, and other valuable information to help guide students and their families through the planning for college process.

A group of high school counselors from across the country helped the company develop the right resources, including videos, blog posts, and FAQs, for topics like completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), obtaining scholarships, budgeting for college, navigating financial aid offer letters, and understanding student loans.

“For most of my students, how to pay for college is one of the first major financial decisions they’ll make,” said Laura Dew, college advisor, Houston, Texas. “The Sallie Mae Paying for College Resource addresses these topics in a simple and straightforward way, and provides free content to guide us through the college planning process. My colleagues and I are excited to use these resources, and we feel equipped to have the financial talks students and families rely on us for.”

Sallie Mae works year-round with more than 20,000 counselors from across the country to help keep students and families informed about planning and paying for college.

“High school counselors are often the first people families go to when looking for answers to their planning and paying for college questions,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “Regardless of where families are in their college planning process, this new, go-to destination offers educators and counselors access to helpful resources in one of the most important times of a college-bound student’s life, navigating the path to what’s next.”
