The Government of Canada supports the presenter Odyscène

SAINTE-THÉRÈSE, QC, Jan. 11, 2019 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to promoting the presentation of the arts from coast to coast to coast, in both rural and urban communities. Arts presenters help Canadians discover and appreciate artists in various disciplines.

The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, today announced $30,000 in funding for the organization Odyscène.

Each year, Odyscène offers residents of Sainte-Thérèse and the surrounding area diverse performing arts programming (song, music, dance, creative theatre, comedy and variety shows), much of which is intended for schools and families. The organization presents its annual programming at three locations: Théâtre Lionel-Groulx, Cabaret BMO Sainte-Thérèse and Salle Pierre-Legault.

This funding, provided through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will enable Odyscène to present various performances and activities as part of its 2019–20 programming.

"Year after year, Odyscène has offered residents of Sainte-Thérèse and the surrounding area an array of amazing performances featuring many Quebec and Canadian artists. Our government is proud to help Odyscène present audiences of all ages with diverse, quality artistic programming that highlights local talent."

—The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism

"The financial contribution from Canadian Heritage will help Odyscène pursue its mission as a cultural leader in the Lower Laurentians. With this investment, Odyscène will consolidate its actions, continue its development in at-risk disciplines, and keep offering a great place for emerging artists and its young clients."

—Serge Dion, Chair of Odyscène's Board of Directors

Quick Facts

Odyscène, founded in 1986, is a performing arts presenter based in Sainte-Thérèse, in the Laurentians region. Its mission is to support, promote and defend the development of the performing arts in the Regional County Municipality of Thérèse-De Blainville.

The $30,000 in funding will contribute to the presentation of diverse artistic programming and audience outreach and development activities during the 2019–20 season.

In 2016, Odyscène inaugurated its new theatre, the Cabaret BMO Sainte-Thérèse. In 2016–17, the Government of Canada provided $110,077 to the organization through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to assist with the purchase of specialized equipment.

Each year, the Canada Arts Presentation Fund supports 650 professional arts festivals and performing arts series, as well as other activities related to arts presentation, in more than 250 communities across Canada.
