Provigo Le Marché L'Avenue opens its doors across from Montréal's Bell Centre

Canada NewsWire

MONTRÉAL, April 6, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, Provigo Le Marché opens its brand-new store, adapted to the lifestyle of a fast-moving urban clientele. The supermarket, located on the second floor of the prestigious L'AVENUE condominium tower, is strategically located across from the Bell Centre, the second busiest amphitheatre in North America.

Provigo Le Marché brilliantly overcomes numerous operational challenges

Over half a million people pass through downtown Montréal each day, including residents, students and workers—not to mention tourists. The Provigo Le Marché L'Avenue team has put all its ingenuity to work in order to optimize the space available in the store, through strategic choices and optimal product merchandising, making it a top food destination in the city's core. Despite its small size—only 23,000 square feet of floor space—the supermarket has been designed to showcase its vast range of 15,000 products, while ensuring a quality shopping experience for the downtown clientele.

"The L'Avenue store is the 17th Provigo Le Marché store to be opened since the banner was officially launched in Quebec four years ago," points out Sylvain Jodoin, Group Director at Provigo. "The Provigo Le Marché experience has triumphed in cities all over Quebec, such as Sherbrooke, Chicoutimi, Quebec City and of course Montréal. Our unparalleled concept—always well adapted to the local market—has been enthusiastically received. This is one of the reasons why Provigo Le Marché continues to expand across the province, year after year."

An economic driver for the Ville-Marie borough

The store's opening will create over 100 downtown jobs and will actively contribute to the economic expansion of the Ville-Marie borough.

"We often celebrate companies in the technology sector who chose Montréal. However, we rarely do so with the retail sector. Yet the opening of a supermarket in the Ville-Marie borough is evidence of the success of downtown Montréal's 'live, work and play' model. This is a winning condition to attract the jobs of the future economy," stated Michel Leblanc, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal.

The new staff will also have the opportunity to attend "Inspire U", a training program adapted by Provigo, which seeks to develop its employees' talents.

An experience adapted to the lifestyle of a fast-moving clientele

Customers will enjoy the exceptional experience of the Provigo Le Marché concept, a wide range of fresh quality products, an environment with a streamlined modern design, and a quality customer service, all adapted to the lifestyle of an urban clientele who fill their shopping carts atypically, several times a week. Led by Store Manager Lysanne Couture, employees at Provigo Le Marché L'Avenue will ensure to provide customers a personalized service in-store.

The supermarket will also feature a special ready-to-eat offering to meet the needs of business people and tourists alike. The store's operations management team will factor Bell Centre events into their decisions regarding staffing and the availability of appropriate products. Business hours will extend from 8:00 a.m. to midnight every day of the week—a first for Provigo.
