Postmedia Network Inc. (“Postmedia”) announced that its news websites are all set for upgrades, delivering better experiences for audiences and greater performance for advertisers beginning today with the Windsor Star.

“More than just a website refresh, Postmedia is adopting an entirely new platform of technologies that bring outstanding user experiences and expanded offerings for advertisers,” said Mary Anne Lavallee, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Postmedia. “Extensive beta testing has shaped the new experience and data proves that users love the new platform with its super-fast load times and improved discoverability.”

Product teams have completely rebuilt what’s under the hood, with new technologies that were born out of the needs of newsrooms for best-in-class performance and designed to maximize browsing speed. Faster and more convenient than ever, these changes will allow for audiences to consume and engage with their favourite news and information and easily find the content they crave, on desktop, tablet or mobile.

Beta testing of the new site began a year ago and in that time the site has seen a significant improvement in audience engagement including time spent up by 75% highlighting the effect of a 79% decrease in page load times.

Over the coming months, all of Postmedia’s daily newspaper sites will be migrating to the all-new user experience with improved performance and a fresh, modern look. Site by site rollouts are expected to be completed by late spring.

New user features include:

  • Cross-device commenting
  • Prioritized video
  • Discoverability widgets
  • Accessibility compliance – following AODA guidelines – including mouse-free navigation
  • International privacy standards – GDPR and CCPA compliant

New features for advertisers include:

  • Additional ad slots on home page and long-form content
  • Improved performance due to viewability
  • Rich Interscroller

The initiative is being supported by an integrated advertising campaign produced in-house by Postmedia’s marketing team.
