NEW HEATHER'S PICKS

Indigo CEO and Chief Booklover Heather Reisman is announcing two new Heather's Pick for October: The Best Kind of People by Zoe Whittall and Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen.

The newest release by Canadian author Zoe Whittall, The Best Kind of People forces the reader to ask: "What if someone you trusted was accused of the unthinkable?" After George Woodbury, an affable teacher and beloved husband and father, is arrested for sexual impropriety at a prestigious prep school, his family is thrown entirely off balance. His wife, Joan, vaults between denial and rage; his daughter becomes a social pariah; his son comes to his defence. With exquisite emotional precision, award-winning author Zoe Whittall explores issues of loyalty, truth, and the meaning of happiness through the lens of an all-American family on the brink of collapse.

Bruce Springsteen's memoir, Born to Run, will be revelatory for anyone who has ever enjoyed The Boss. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to these pages the same honesty, humour, and originality found in his songs. Rarely has a performer told their story with such force and sweep.

About loss and survival; abuse, love and femininity, Rupi's collection is divided into four chapters, each full of short, poignant poems that serve a different purpose. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look. The perfect collection for those looking to read more poetry.

INDIGO's STAFF PICK OF THE MONTH

Indigo's Staff Picks program is the perfect place to start looking for your next favourite book. Each month we choose the book that Indigo employees at home office and in stores love the most, and what we think our customers will love.

October's Staff Pick of the Month is A House Without Windows by Nadia Hashimi. This captivating thriller is a vivid, unforgettable story of love, death, mystery and sisterhood from the bestselling author of The Pearl That Broke Its Shell and One Half from the East. For two decades, Zeba was a loving wife, a patient mother, and a peaceful villager. But her quiet life is shattered when her husband, Kamal, is found brutally murdered with a hatchet in the courtyard of their home. Nearly catatonic with shock, Zeba is unable to account for her whereabouts at the time of his death. A moving look at the lives of modern Afghan women, A House Without Windows is astonishing, frightening, and triumphant.
