OAKLAND, Calif. --

Oakland-based startup company, City Flavor LLC announced the launch of a new program, the Food Trucks First Initiative. When COVID-19 turned the food and hospitality industry upside down, City Flavor, assisted by their proprietary software, helped Bay Area and Los Angeles food trucks earn more than $750,000 in revenue.

As pandemic lockdowns extended in California, the City Flavor team watched their food truck partners struggle more than they had before, and as former food truck owners, they knew they had to step in.

“After the first few months of the pandemic ruined small food businesses nationwide, we had to get creative,” said City Flavor co-founder, Travis Pillon. “The loss of corporate lunches and in-person events was devastating for these vendors. Since then, we’ve organized partnerships with apartment complexes to harness the work-from-home crowd and have partnered with large distribution companies to serve essential workers at their facilities.”

Their new initiative aims to build community and foster growth in the mobile food industry, and is focused on finding innovative ways to bring food to customers and essential workers.

“Watching small businesses in our hometown of Oakland and throughout the state go under this past year has been gut-wrenching,” Pillon said. “Right now, we feel optimistic for our vendors and look forward to connecting them to valuable opportunities. This initiative allows us to build on the work we’ve already started.”

The Food Trucks First Initiative will:

  • Continue to charge the lowest industry fees and encourage other booking companies to charge fairly
  • Continue to analyze sales data from vendors to match them with the most profitable locations
  • Optimize scheduling to allow for higher volumes of business, resulting in increased profits
  • Continue to foster mutually beneficial partnerships with organizations to bring money to small businesses

About City Flavor: City Flavor is a mobile food booking company based in Oakland, CA, with the goal of lowering booking fees and building communities. Founded by people in the food truck industry, City Flavor understands how challenging it can be to find the best events for trucks and the best trucks for events. City Flavor is committed to helping make these connections and streamline the catering process, to keep money in the pockets of small businesses.
