CAGLIARI, Italy, June 22, 2017 /CNW/ - The transportation system is something Canadians rely on every day, from getting us to work, or bringing us the goods we use in our homes. This week, Canada showcases its vision of a safe, secure, green, innovative and integrated transportation system that supports trade and economic growth, a cleaner environment and the well-being of Canada's middle class.

The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, attended the G7 Transport Ministers' Meeting in Cagliari, Italy, on June 21 and 22, 2017, where the Ministers adopted a joint declaration to confirm their commitment to fostering investment in high-quality infrastructure as a key element of the strategy to support sustainable economic growth to the benefit of Canadians.

In addition, Minister Garneau held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union, during which he highlighted areas of cooperation to reduce air pollution in the air and marine sectors. He also discussed best practices for connected and automated vehicles as well as the importance of building lasting transportation infrastructure. Canada, a vast country which relies on a complex transportation network to move its citizens and goods, demonstrates that Canadians benefit from a competitive and efficient transportation system.
