Michael Cooke stepping down as Toronto Star editor

TORONTO, March 23, 2018 /CNW/ - The Toronto Star announced today that Michael Cooke will be stepping down as Editor of the Star effective June 1, 2018. Mr. Cooke is the longest-serving Editor in the Star's recent history, having been appointed to the position in March, 2009.

Mr. Cooke is leaving daily journalism to become more involved in training international journalists on human rights reporting. Mr. Cooke is currently Chair of Journalists for Human Rights, a leading global media development organization based in Toronto, and will continue his involvement with Journalists for Human Rights and other non-government organizations.
