CHICAGO, Sept. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Standup for Georgetown charity event featuring comedian Jim Gaffigan raised $24,000 for the Georgetown Scholarship Program on Thursday, Sept. 20. The Georgetown alum took time during his "Fixer Upper Comedy Tour" to support the event held at Mayne Stage, a historic theatre in Rogers Park.

"The generous support given tonight will help provide students access to resources and a community focused on their success," says Charles Deacon, dean of admissions at Georgetown University and co-founder of the Georgetown Scholarship Program. "We are thankful to everyone in attendance, particularly Jim Gaffigan who brought us together for a great cause and a night of comedy."

The successful event produced by Michigan Avenue Magazine and presented by Wintrust Financial and Celebrity Cruises included a meet and greet with the Grammy-nominated comedian. All proceeds benefited the Georgetown Scholarship Program, which helps to empower hard-working, low-income, often first-generation students at the university.

"We couldn't have wished for a better way to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Michigan Avenue Magazine," says Dan Uslan, Modern Luxury market president. "Jim Gaffigan epitomizes the true spirit of generosity by giving guests this wonderful performance".

Since its creation in 2004, the Georgetown Scholarship Program has served over 1,600 Georgetown University students. Over 650 undergraduate students are currently in the program, giving them access to campus assistance, academic and career help, mentorship programs, and a vast network of support.

"We were happy to donate Mayne Stage for the event and open our doors to alumni, friends and supporters of the Georgetown University Program," says Carmen Korleski, director of hospitality operations at Mayne Stage. "Our intimate venue offered a space for guests to experience a personal performance and raise a substantial amount for the scholarship."
