Imperial provides Kearl operational update

Canada NewsWire

CALGARY, May, 5, 2016 /CNW/ - Imperial today provided an update on its operations at Kearl.

As a precaution, Kearl workforce levels have been reduced to essential staff only in response to the fires in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Air monitoring is in place and the physical plant is unaffected by the fires.

The safety of our employees, contractors and communities continues to be Imperial's first priority. All Imperial employees and contractors working at Kearl are safe and accounted for. We are supporting our employees and their families that live in Fort McMurray by ensuring safe accommodations.

Imperial continues to monitor the situation closely and has reduced Kearl production at this time. This action was taken to conserve critical supplies as we manage uncertainties associated with inbound and outbound logistics.

We continue to assess ways that Imperial can best support the community at this difficult time and the days ahead. In addition to $100,000 donated to the Canadian Red Cross, we are providing accommodation, fuel and flights for our evacuated employees, their families and other evacuated residents of Fort McMurray.
