Imperial Provides $100,000 to Assist Canadian Red Cross Emergency Response in Alberta

Canada NewsWire

CALGARY, May 4, 2016 /CNW/ - In response to the serious wildfire situation in northeastern Alberta, the Imperial Oil Foundation today announced a $100,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support emergency assistance efforts.

"Our thoughts are with the residents in the Fort McMurray area who have been impacted by the severe wildfires," said Rich Kruger, Chairman, President and CEO. "We will continue to assess the situation to determine the best ways Imperial can provide support and assistance during this difficult time and in the days ahead. We applaud the Red Cross and other emergency organizations for their efforts to provide the immediate assistance that is required."

Wildfires have resulted in the largest fire-related evacuation in Alberta history with more than 70,000 individuals displaced due to evacuation orders, according to the Canadian Red Cross. Residents in more than 12 northern communities, including Fort McMurray, have been impacted.

Those wishing to help may contribute to the Alberta Fires Appeal online at www.redcross.ca/albertafires, by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by contacting a local Canadian Red Cross office.

After more than a century, Imperial continues to be an industry leader in applying technology and innovation to responsibly develop Canada's energy resources. As Canada's largest petroleum refiner, a major producer of crude oil and natural gas, a key petrochemical producer and a leading fuels marketer from coast to coast, our company remains committed to high standards across all areas of our business.
