Grand opening celebration on Wednesday, August 22nd includes more than $10,000 in prizing and fun, family-friendly entertainment

QUÉBEC CITY, Aug. 15, 2018 /CNW/ - IKEA Quebec City invites everyone to join in the excitement and experience Canada's newest IKEA at the grand opening on Wednesday, August 22nd. IKEA Quebec City will welcome its first customers through the doors at 9:00 am following grand opening celebrations.

IKEA Canada (CNW Group/IKEA Canada)

More than $10,000 in prizing will be given away and everyone in line will have a chance to win. Every 15 minutes from 6:00 am to 8:00 am, IKEA will draw for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card. Additionally, the first 300 people in line will receive a $50 gift card. The following 700 people will receive a coupon for $50 off a purchase of $150. IKEA will also have special prices on iconic products throughout opening weekend, with a new offer every day.

Grand opening celebrations will begin at 8:20 am and will feature fun family entertainment and giveaways. Special guests will include Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume, as well as representatives from IKEA Canada.

"We have an exciting day planned and our co-workers are excited to welcome everyone to our new store," said Annika Lenoir, IKEA Quebec City Store Manager. "The response from the community has been fantastic and we look forward to providing an inspirational shopping experience and fun day out for the family."

Working at IKEA is inspiring, fun and fast-paced and career opportunities are endless. Half of the jobs at IKEA Quebec City are full-time, and part-time co-workers will receive guaranteed hours every week. All co-workers will receive IKEA's total rewards package including a Group RRSP, performance-driven bonus program, subsidized meals, a co-worker discount, TACK! loyalty program and more.

IKEA wants to have a positive impact on people and the planet and be a partner for positive change in the local community. IKEA is proud to support the Breakfast Club of Canada, through donations and volunteerism, to help provide school children with a daily breakfast, including schools near the new store. For every breakfast sold from August 22nd to 26th, IKEA will also donate one breakfast to Breakfast Club of Canada programs in the local community. Together, IKEA Quebec City co-workers and local Tree Canada staff will help to keep the community green, including the planting of 50 trees along St-Charles River earlier this year.

IKEA Quebec was constructed with sustainability in mind and will be LEED certified.  Some of the sustainability features include electric vehicle charging stations and preferred parking for hybrid and electric vehicles, free lightbulb and battery takeback services and water conserving fixtures including sensor taps and dual-flush toilets and a living wall to purify air and provide a calming effect.

IKEA Quebec City will feature nearly 10,000 products, 50 inspirational room settings, 3 market relevant home interiors, a SMALAND supervised children's play area and a 500-seat restaurant serving the iconic Swedish meatballs and a wide variety of other dishes which include vegetarian and vegan options.

Inspirational room settings will reflect life at home in Quebec, all at affordable prices. IKEA Quebec City will also have great family friendly features such as a baby care room, play areas throughout the store, preferred parking and a Children's IKEA department. The store will be open weekdays from 10 am to 9 pm and from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays

IKEA Quebec City is the 14th IKEA store in Canada. More information about the store can be found at IKEA.ca/Quebec.
