The WorldStar is widely considered to be the most important and well-recognized packaging award on the globe, often referred to as the “The Oscars of Packaging”. Entries must undergo a very strict screening and eligibility process within their own countries before being allowed to qualify for the global WorldStar competition; in the 2019 competition there were finalists from 35 countries. Judging is conducted by leading industry experts and focuses on whether a product delivers superior performance in a market or category, or delivers a better quality of life for more people. The overriding idea is that packaging can be the answer to many social issues, from nutrition to food safety to world hunger.

In citing The Answer®, the WorldStar Award states: “IDC’s aseptic tap enables extended shelf-life after commencing dispensing. It’s not only a convenience for foodservice operators, but also a food safety benefit by extending shelf-life and reducing chances of spoilage. The bag-in-dispenser (BID) format offers hot-cold drinks on demand, and is also a sustainability advantage in source reduction compared to using multiple bottles or paper/aluminum cartons.”

“Winning a WorldStar is a prestigious achievement,” said IDC Chairman Greg Abbott. “Innovation, sustainability, and the making the world better are at the heart of what we do. The Answer® enables foodservice operators to optimize food safety and packaging performance while dramatically reducing costs, eliminating waste, enhancing nutrition, and lowering carbon emissions and landfill. It is an honor to have these benefits and the social impact of our technology recognized by leading professionals from the global packaging industry.”

IDC will formally receive its WorldStar Award at a Gala Awards Ceremony in Prague, Czech Republic on the evening of May 15, 2019.
