HSBC ranks amongst top-three corporate citizens in Canada, tops 'women in leadership' ranking from Corporate Knights

Canada NewsWire

VANCOUVER, June 6, 2017 /CNW/ - HSBC Bank Canada has climbed 20 spots to place third overall in the 16th annual list of Canada's Best 50 Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights, a Toronto-based media, research and financial products company focused on clean capitalism.

The Corporate Knights Best 50 ranking measures a diverse range of Canadian enterprises on a suite of 14 performance indicators, including greenhouse gas productivity, taxes paid, health and safety performance and pension fund quality.

"Breaking into the top-three of Canada's Best Corporate Citizens is an achievement we are all are incredibly proud of," said Sandra Stuart, President and CEO, HSBC Bank Canada. "For us, sustainability means keeping pace with the changing needs of our customers and balancing social, environmental and economic considerations in the decisions we make every day."

HSBC is also the first company to be recognized as a top performer in gender diversity within the financial services sector, as part of a new Corporate Knights initiative to recognize leaders in this space.

"HSBC's significant rise in the ranking is commendable," said Michael Yow, ‎Director of Research, Corporate Knights. "Furthermore, HSBC's gender-balanced Board of Directors – the only one among TSX-listed financial services organizations – was a major factor in their being recognized as the top diversity leader in their industry."

Added Stuart: "As Canada's leading international bank, diversity is part of our DNA – it's a competitive advantage, helping us attract and retain some of the best and the brightest people across Canada to work – and bank – with us."

HSBC Bank Canada has ranked within the top 50 on the Corporate Knights list for seven years in a row.  For more information about Corporate Knights' Best 50 Corporate Citizens ranking and its 'women in leadership' ranking, including details about its methodology, please visit the Corporate Knights website.
