Helping fund essential life skills training for homeless youth in Toronto

TORONTO, April 13, 2016 /CNW/ - Genworth Canada is proud to support Eva's, a not-for-profit organization aimed at putting an end to youth homelessness, with a $50,000 donation to fund the new Genworth Canada Life Skills Education Centre at Eva's Phoenix.

Eva's works locally and nationally to prevent, reduce and end youth homelessness in Canada. In Toronto, the charity operates 3 purpose-built emergency and transitional facilities for homeless youth that focus on family reconnection, harm reduction, employment, education and life skills programming. The Genworth Canada Life Skills Education Centre at Eva's Phoenix will deliver financial literacy education, professional workshops and other essential life skills training.

"Genworth Canada is committed to enabling responsible homeownership that supports and sustains healthy and strong communities across the country," said Stuart Levings, President and CEO of Genworth Canada. "Helping youth get on the right track towards financial and emotional independence is a vital step towards building a stronger tomorrow for all generations."

There are more than 10,000 homeless youth in Toronto, many who come from others parts of Canada in the hopes of a brighter future in our most populous city. "Thanks to the help of corporate partners such as Genworth Canada, we are able to provide an alternative to homeless youth", said Alanna Scott, Director of Development and Campaigns at Eva's. "Everyone needs a safe place to call home in order to thrive and making that possible for more Canadians is a goal Genworth Canada and Eva's share in common."

Eva's Phoenix is currently running a capital fundraising campaign to relocate and renovate its current transitional housing and employment training facility for homeless youth in downtown Toronto.  The new site, opening in May 2016, will provide youth an even stronger foundation to realize their potential.
