Dr. Crichton will assist Tinkerine with the continued development of the Tinkerine’s educational content platform and associated Applied Design school initiative with a focus on design challenges, education training, and ensuring an effective and impactful product for use in the classroom.

 

Dr. Crichton was among of the group that lead the development of British Columbia’s new Applied Design, Skills, and Technology (ADST) curriculum that was introduced in 2015/2016.

Susan Crichton, Bsc, MA, PhD

 

Dr. Susan Crichton is Emeritus Professor, University of British Columbia (“UBC”)and was formerly the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education at UBC and the founding director of the Innovative Learning Centre (http://innovativelearningcentre.ca/).

 

Dr. Crichton taught in both the Bachelor of Education and graduate programs, focusing on Trades and Technology (Applied Design, Skills and Technologies), new media, design thinking and Making, and appropriate technologies. Her research explores the thoughtful design and development of learning environments to enable quality learning, especially those in challenging contexts.  She has worked to develop an immersive professional learning approach for professional learning, introducing maker education to educators locally and globally.  Her work, focused on design and making, can be found at http://commons.royalroads.ca/takiningmaking/ and can be freely downloaded by acknowledging its Creative Commons licensing.

 

Previously, she was a professor at the University of Calgary.  She has been invited to work in Bhutan, Chile, China, Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania, principally in the area design thinking, appropriate technologies, and Making.
