National Fundraising Effort Raises Money in Support of WE Charity

TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2017 /CNW/ - (TSX: CGX) - On Saturday, October 14, Canadian movie-lovers and their families are invited to visit their local Cineplex theatre and enjoy a morning of free films for a good cause. For the seventh consecutive year, Cineplex Community Day ("Community Day") will treat guests to a selection of popular, family-friendly movies, with all proceeds from donations and select concession sales supporting the company's national charitable partner, WE Charity, part of WE - a family of organizations that makes doing good, doable.

"We are proud of our continued relationship with and support of WE and remain committed to supporting initiatives that empower young people across the country," said Ellis Jacob, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cineplex. "As one of the country's largest employers of youth, we know firsthand that Canada's youth have the power to inspire and create positive change to make a lasting impact on the world around them. We are proud to play a role in making that happen."

This year's line-up of free films includes popular releases for movie-lovers of all ages, such as Kung Fu Panda 3, Trolls, Ice Age: Collision Course, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Guests can enjoy concessions like popcorn, soft drinks and select candy for just $2.50 each and, in exchange for a $2.00 donation, theatres will also be selling a fun variety of ME to WE Cineplex 'Change Bracelets' which feature motivational statements to inspire youth to create positive change.

"Community Day brings families and friends together to celebrate amazing young change-makers who are creating long-lasting impacts in their local and global communities," said Craig Kielburger, co-founder, WE. "Thanks to Cineplex and all the support from Community Day, we are able to continue inspiring young people through our domestic WE Schools program while empowering them with the tools they need to dream up ways they can make a difference."

Cineplex theatres across Canada will open their doors at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, with tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Movies will begin at 9:30 AM, and all locations will return to regular programming in the afternoon. Films will be shown in English and French, depending upon the market, and guests are encouraged to visit Cineplex.com/CommunityDay for a list of participating theatres, show times and available languages.

Cineplex is proud to acknowledge its numerous corporate employees and theatre cast members who volunteer their time each year as well as Mars Canada and Wrigley Canada for providing products or services to help make Community Day a reality.
