TORONTO, Jan. 26, 2017 /CNW/ - CI Investments Inc. ("CI") announced today that 23 of its investment funds have received 2016 FundGrade® A+ Awards, which recognize funds with consistent, outstanding risk-adjusted performance. The awards were announced last night by Fundata Canada Inc., a provider of financial and market data.

CI's winning mutual funds were:

  • Cambridge Asset Allocation Corporate Class
  • Cambridge Canadian Dividend Fund
  • Cambridge Global High Income Fund
  • Cambridge Pure Canadian Equity Fund
  • Portfolio Series Income Fund
  • United International Equity Growth Pool.

In addition, 17 CI segregated funds were also named winners in their categories.

The Cambridge funds and United International Equity Growth Pool are managed by Cambridge Global Asset Management, a division of CI that manages approximately $20 billion in a diversified lineup of Canadian and global equity, income and balanced mandates.

"CI is extremely proud of our Cambridge team as they continue to earn awards based on the excellent results they've achieved for investors across their lineup of funds," said Neal Kerr, Executive Vice-President, Investment Management, at CI Investments. "The FundGrade A+ Awards, which are focused on consistency of strong risk-adjusted returns, are very much in line with the Cambridge approach to investing."

Five segregated funds that invest in Cambridge funds were also recipients of a FundGrade A+ award.

Portfolio Series Income Fund is part of Portfolio Series, a managed solutions program overseen by CI Multi-Asset Management. The team manages the funds using an active, multi-asset-class approach. In addition to the award for Portfolio Series Income Fund, two segregated funds that invest in Portfolio Series funds were FundGrade A+ winners.

Cambridge and CI Multi-Asset Management were also recipients of Lipper Fund Awards in 2016.

"We congratulate our portfolio managers for achieving industry-leading risk-adjusted returns; this recognition is well deserved," Mr. Kerr said.

The FundGrade A+™ Awards is used with permission from Fundata Canada Inc., all rights reserved. The annual FundGrade A+™ Awards are presented by Fundata Canada Inc. to recognize the "best of the best" among Canadian investment funds. The FundGrade A+ calculation is supplemental to the monthly FundGrade™ ratings and is calculated at the end of each calendar year. The FundGrade rating system evaluates funds based on their risk-adjusted performance, measured by Sharpe Ratio, Sortino Ratio, and Information Ratio. The score for each ratio is calculated individually, covering all time periods from 2 to 10 years. The scores are then weighted equally in calculating a monthly FundGrade rating, which is subject to change every month. The funds with the highest 10% receive a grade of A, the next 20% a grade of B, the middle 40% a grade of C, the next 20% a grade of D, and the lowest 10% a grade of E. Eligible funds must have received a FundGrade rating every month in the previous year to be considered for the annual FundGrade A+ Awards. The FundGrade A+ uses a GPA-style calculation, where each monthly FundGrade rating from "A" to "E" receives a score from 4 to 0, respectively. A fund's average score for the year determines its GPA. Any fund with a GPA of 3.5 or greater is awarded an A+ rating. For more information, see www.FundGradeAwards.com. The Lipper Fund Awards, granted annually, are part of the Thomson Reuters Awards for Excellence and highlight funds that have excelled in delivering consistently strong risk-adjusted performance relative to their peers. The Lipper Fund Awards are based on the Lipper Ratings for Consistent Return, which is a risk-adjusted performance measure calculated over 36, 60 and 120 month periods. The highest 20% of funds in each category are named Lipper Leaders for Consistent Return and receive a score of 5, the next 20% receive a score of 4, the middle 20% are scored 3, the next 20% are scored 2 and the lowest 20% are scored 1. The highest Lipper Leader for Consistent Return in each category wins the Lipper Fund Award. Lipper Leader ratings change monthly. For more information, see www.lipperweb.com.
