More than 30,000 employees at Canadian Tire stores across Canada to benefit from $2/hour premium

TORONTO, March 25, 2020 /CNW/ - Canadian Tire Corporation (TSX:CTC, TSX:CTC.a) announced today that the Canadian Tire Associate Dealers have implemented a temporary special support payment of $2 per hour for all active Canadian Tire store employees. This premium, a 'thank you' to employees for their hard work in continuing to serve their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, begins March 22, and will continue until May 2, 2020.

"In these unprecedented times, it is important to acknowledge the hard work of our teams and show our appreciation for their commitment to our stores, our communities and our customers," said Gerry Feist, President, Canadian Tire Dealers' Association, and Associate Dealer, Canadian Tire store #288 in Edmonton, Alberta.

"Canadians have been turning to Canadian Tire for the essential products required to help navigate COVID-19. Canadian Tire store employees are on the frontline and we are extremely proud of the role they are playing in our communities as they continue to serve our customers and help them to safely obtain the products they need," said Greg Hicks, President and CEO, Canadian Tire Corporation.

Canadian Tire Retail stores across the country remain open with reduced hours to allow for enhanced cleaning and restocking. The demand for supplies ranging from bathroom tissue, hand sanitizer and cleaning products to other household staples has been high as Canadians take precautions to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

In addition to the temporary support payments by its Associate Dealers, Canadian Tire continues to explore measures that will support the safety and well-being of employees as the situation evolves. This week, stores have begun installing plexiglass cashier shields and social distancing measures are being implemented throughout the stores, including at check-outs. In addition, effective today, Canadian Tire stores are offering Curbside Pick Up for online orders, giving customers another way to shop where purchases are brought directly to their vehicle.
