Canada's Premiers to visit Washington, D.C. on February 22-23

Canada NewsWire

OTTAWA, Feb. 19, 2019 /CNW/ - New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs, as Chair of the Council of the Federation, will lead a joint mission of Canada's Premiers to Washington, D.C. on February 22-23, 2019. Joining him on the mission will be Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.

The aim of the visit is to build and enhance relations with American political leaders, especially U.S. governors. The Premiers' visit will coincide with the 2019 Winter Meeting of the National Governors Association.

"I am honoured to be leading this mission of Canada's Premiers to Washington, D.C.," said New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs. "I look forward to working with my fellow colleagues to enhance our relationships with U.S. governors, while reinforcing the mutual benefits of the Canada-U.S. trading relationship, and working to ensure continued prosperity for Canadians and Americans. No two nations depend more on each other for their mutual prosperity and security than the United States and Canada."

This will be the sixth international mission of the Council of the Federation. Two previous missions to Washington, D.C. were undertaken, in 2010 and 2017.

The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
