SAINT JOHN, NB, June 4, 2020 /CNW/ - As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, the Government of Canada remains committed to building a clean energy future to stimulate the economy and make life more affordable for families while also protecting the environment for our children and future generations.

Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John–Rothesay, on behalf of the Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today announced a $326,000 investment in an innovative online program that will help New Brunswick families save money on their energy bills while reducing pollution.

With this funding, Saint John Energy is developing an interactive online platform to make it easier for residents to track their energy use and improve energy efficiency in their homes. Residents will be able to find the programs, products and services available to help reduce their carbon footprint. The project will also help to raise awareness and promote the adoption of existing energy efficiency programs in New Brunswick.

Project partners include the University of New Brunswick, the City of Saint John and the Calgary-based company MyHEAT, whose contributions bring the total project value to $757,600.

Federal funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada's Energy Efficiency program. By increasing the energy efficiency of Canadian homes, Canada will be closer to meeting its 2030 climate change targets. Today's announcement also builds on the Generation Energy Council Report, which proposed principles on how to build our energy future to ensure that the economy and environment go hand in hand, including ways to improve energy efficiency.

The government continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and work collaboratively with partners to support the natural resource sectors and stabilize the economy.
