BOSTON --

Sean Keohane, president and CEO of Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) has been recognized by Safety+Health, the official magazine of the National Safety Council (NSC), as one of the 2020 CEOs Who 'Get It' – an annual recognition presented to safety leaders who go the extra mile to protect employees both on and off the job.

Each year, NSC honors a select group of CEOs who exemplify putting safety first and have each advanced their organization’s safety strategy using four key components: risk reduction, performance measurement, safety management solutions, and leadership and employee engagement.

“It is an honor to be recognized for Cabot’s leadership in safety performance,” said Keohane. “As CEO, it is my responsibility to make safety our top priority as a company and to integrate safe work practices into our operating system. Having worked at Cabot for the past 17 years and regularly visited our sites around the world, I know that success in safety comes down to our people. I am immensely proud of the many sites in our network that have gone multiple years without a recordable injury. This recognition is a true testament to the commitment and collective efforts of our global team to work safely each and every day.”

Keohane is profiled in the February edition of Safety+Health. In the article, he shares his perspectives on safety and lessons he has learned from other accomplished leaders throughout his career.

“I firmly believe that all workplace injuries are preventable,” notes Keohane. “Throughout my career, I’ve had the benefit of learning from great mentors and witnessing the value of safety-oriented workplaces. I learned a long time ago that safety comes down to three things: attitude, awareness and execution. Are we bringing the right attitude to work each day and holding our team members to that same standard? What are we doing to constantly raise the awareness of hazards in the workplace? And finally, are we following the procedures that the company has laid out to safeguard our health? If the answer to all of these questions is yes, the likelihood of injuries is significantly reduced.”
