AICP Canada condemns Christchurch terrorist attack on two mosques in New Zealand

Canada NewsWire

CALGARY, March 15, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - We are deeply shocked to receive news of the callous terrorist attack which targeted people praying in two-mosques in New Zealand, today, Friday the 15th of March 2019.

It has been reported that numerous people were killed in a mass shooting, when an armed gunman opened fire during the Friday congregational prayer at two locations in the city of Christchurch.

According to police reports, three men and a woman have been taken into police custody, along with the discovery of explosives attached to several vehicles.

We strongly condemn these heinous acts of violence which only serve to cause division and disunity and disrupt the safety and security of the country. We hope that the New Zealand authorities will swiftly apprehend any remaining terrorist criminals who remain at large so they can receive the punishment that they deserve.

We would also urge the Muslim community in New Zealand to remain vigilant and to fully cooperate with Police and authorities during their investigations.

We also advise them to remain calm and resist any provocation which will only serve the interests of the terrorists who wish to cause hate and division within the larger New Zealand community.

AICP in Canada expresses its deep sympathy and stands in solidarity with the people, government and Muslim community of New Zealand, offering its heartfelt condolences to the families of the innocent who were killed, and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
